How we prepare our learning content

How OpenEconometrics prepares concept explainers, method references and teaching labs, labels examples, cites sources and maintains published learning pages.

Updated

OpenEconometrics publishes the learning pages on this site. The organization name in the byline identifies responsibility for the content; it is not a claim of independent peer review or an individual academic credential.

Three kinds of learning material

Concept explainers answer a specific question, such as what econometrics is or how descriptive statistics differ from inference. They use plain-language explanations, labelled examples and references. A conceptual explanation does not imply that a software calculation was performed.

Method references describe an estimator, its assumptions and the options available in the documented OpenEconometrics package version. Their capability tables come from a committed package snapshot. Their Python examples include recorded output and state the package version. Supported options in one estimator should not be inferred for another.

Teaching labs bring a question, a dataset and an analysis together. The labs use synthetic teaching data and link the handout, code and available supporting resources. They illustrate a method; their numbers are not empirical findings about a real economy.

Sources and examples

We link original papers, official documentation, textbooks and institutional educational resources where they help substantiate an explanation. A reference supports a particular idea; it does not mean that its author endorses this site or the software.

Hypothetical arithmetic examples are labelled as such. Recorded software outputs are identified separately. We distinguish association, prediction and causal interpretation, and state limitations that change what a reader can conclude. Statistical significance is not treated as evidence of practical importance on its own.

Publication and updates

Article headers show publication dates and, when different, update dates. Dates change for substantive revisions, not merely because a site deployment or build ran. A learning path is an index of related material, not an additional version of the articles it links to.

The content sources and generator are version controlled alongside the project. The build checks metadata, references to local pages, topic membership and generated output. These checks establish consistency, rather than external scientific review or a guarantee that every explanation is free of error.

Corrections

If you find an error, please open an issue in the public repository with the page URL, the statement in question and a supporting source or reproducible example. For software behaviour, include the package version and the smallest example that demonstrates the problem. Avoid including private datasets or credentials.
